Mentoring Through Parties
These conversations go beyond the parties, and from that friendly, relalxed informal home setting, great rapport and long-lasting relationships are formed. The girls grow up and we continue to talk about more issues as they keep growing. The mentoring that happens takes place within a real-life setting in which the girls get to interact with their mentors in real-life situations, and talk about real-life things, sometimes as they happen.
I have found this to be the best way of mentoring girls at home. It is the way I was mentored by my mentor, Susan, and I gleaned so many secrets about life, home-making, marriage and family. I believe that it is the best way to impart values to our young ones, because these values are more caught than taught. I also find it important to teach these things before they get to teenage, because a tree should be bent when still young. Dealing with some of these issues at a later stage becomes a lot tougher because of the uprooting that needs to be done to get rid of all damaging beliefs and settings. Usually, by then, their self-esteem and confidence is warped and so wounded, especially if they did not get the right grounding.
Now, the girls I have started with were my friends, and children of my friends. Eventually, they wanted more and more girls to experience the parties and the mentoring that came along with them, and they kept inviting more and more girls. That’s how I was able to reach out to more and more girls, and eventually, Amazing Girl Mentorship Network was formed. We now train, mentor and coach girls (all ages) through events, publications, digital platforms and appropriate partnerships in order to help them discover their identity, worth and purpose and begin to live it out.
Last year we had 6 parties – cutex, make-up, fashion, movie and shopping parties. I posted about them on Facebook, and more people were interested. Well, there’s one coming up in August, on the 22ND, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, at PAC University. You are welcome to bring you daughter, friend, niece…any 7-12 year old girl who you believe could benefit from the mentorship training. The cost is only Ksh. 1,000 for training materials and refreshments. There are limited slots available, so I’d encourage you to book your spot today. Call +254723285236 and book your space.
