Mentoring Through Parties

August 9, 2018 Uncategorized 0

My first cutex party to throw was more than 10 years ago. I have since thrown all sorts of fun parties for preteens. We’ve had make-up, fashion, art, talent, baking, drop-scones, movieall sorts of parties. I bring the girls together, we have a fun time laughing, giggling, dancingdoing all things girly. As we do so, I teach them God’s wordencourage them about their identity, worth and purpose. We talk about self-esteemconfidence. We talk about being modestGod-pleasing in our dressing. We talk about puberty, adolescent changes, boys:)have lots of Q&As from the girls.

These conversations go beyond the parties, from that friendly, relalxed informal home setting, great rapportlong-lasting relationships are formed. The girls grow upwe continue to talk about more issues as they keep growing. The mentoring that happens takes place within a real-life setting in which the girls get to interact with their mentors in real-life situations, talk about real-life things, sometimes as they happen.

I have found this to be the best way of mentoring girls  at home. It is the way I was mentored by my mentor, Susan,I gleaned so many secrets about life, home-making, marriagefamily. I believe that it is the best way to impart values to our young ones, because these values are more caught than taught. I also find it important to teach these things before they get to teenage, because a tree should be bent when still young. Dealing with some of these issues at a later stage becomes a lot tougher because of the uprooting that needs to be done to get rid of all damaging beliefssettings. Usually, by then, their self-esteemconfidence is warpedso wounded, especially if they did not get the right grounding.

Now, the girls I have started with were my friends, children of my friends. Eventually, they wanted moremore girls to experience the partiesthe mentoring that came along with them, they kept inviting moremore girls. That’s how I was able to reach out to moremore girls, eventually, Amazing Girl Mentorship Network was formed. We now train, mentorcoach girls (all ages) through events, publications, digital platformsappropriate partnerships in order to help them discover their identity, worthpurposebegin to live it out.
