Mentoring…

I liked a certain biro that I was using a while back. It was sharp pointed, wrote very well in its glorious blue color. I however couldn’t see the amount of ink remaining in the biro, and one Sunday as I was writing it ran out on me! Oh so much for its good looks and beautiful services.
I wished I had a way of knowing how far I’d gone with it, and therefore ready myself with a replacement in good time. Happens all the time to most of us, I think. And hence my rather deeply growing respect for those pens whose ink changes I can monitor. In the same vein, I think we all need mentors in our lives; guides and checks who keep us in balance and on track. They raise an alarm when the need for one arises, and encourage you to move without anxiety and with security, because you “still have a lot of ink.” You need someone you can be open to, vulnerable with, who can walk with you and help you move on, sometimes guide you in your way having been there before themselves. And maybe you can be someone’s check too, someone who looks up to you and trusts you. Let’s help each other out, huh?
